Tell us how you first met?

We both both worked at a call center. Terrence said he saw me walk in on my first day of training and did a double take, wanting to know my name. He worked on the opposite side of the room so on his breaks, he would walk around the building, passing my aisle, with his phone up in the air trying to be inconspicuous (as if I didn’t see him walk by every time). I actually didn’t know he liked me until someone told me. I eventually left the job to go back to school and we didn’t see or talk to each other for 3 years. We finally reconnected through facebook in 2016. He slid in my DM (direct messenger). We went on out first date and the rest is history.

When did you know he/she was the one?

Chenae: Initially, I wasn’t looking to be in a relationship. I asked him if he was willing to be my friend and he said “absolutely.” Our conversations always made me comfortable. I was living in New Jersey and he was in North Carolina. Because of the distance, we would meet in DC/Virginia.

After our first trip, the Lord woke me up at 4am and said, “Chenae, Terrence is the one.” I said ok and went back to sleep. It wasn’t until I got up for work when I realized what had happened hours before.

In addition to having God’s approval, while Terrence and I were on the phone one day, he said, “Chenae, I’ve always wanted you to be happy. I never wanted you to settle for less. Even though you were in a relationship before and I was heartbroken that I couldn’t have you, as long as you were happy, I was happy. Now that you are with me, I would love to be the one who makes you happy all the time. I never want you to settle for less. So if you ever feel like you are settling for less with me, don’t. Reach past me because you deserve the best. I want you to have the best, even if that means it’s without me.” After that, between God and Terrence, I was completely hooked and head over heels.

Tell us about the proposal.

Terrence said he always knew he wanted to marry me. After we got together, he contacted my mom, aunt, and God mom to set it up. My mother contacted my pastor so he could get in on it too. They all conspired to have Terrence propose to me at my home church in New Jersey. They started planning this Oct. 2017 and they pulled it off December 31, 2017 in front of my church.

The morning of Dec. 31, 2017, my mom wanted me to do a lot of stuff before watch night service. While I was getting ready for morning service, my mom sent me to the car to get a shoe. I went to the back to find it and Terrence was hiding in the backseat. I ran away and left him in the car because I couldn’t believe he was in Jersey.

We went to morning service and later that day, we prepared for watch night. At the end of watch night service, my pastor called me up to the front and announced that I would be moving back to NC because I had a job opportunity.

I told my pastor that “my boyfriend” was in town and he surprised me that morning. He asked Terrence to come into the pulpit. At this point, I’m confused because Terrence doesn’t like talking in front of people. He told everyone he thanks God for me and his loves me and that he had another surprise for me. Then, he went in his pocket, got down in front of everyone and asked me to marry him. I was surprised, nervous and excited because I totally didn’t see this coming.
