Tell us how you first met?

Alvin and I first met in high school (he went to Enloe High School and I went to Knightdale high school) our sophomore year at a charity ball held by his high school. We were both with our exes at the time.

As time moved on, things didn’t work out with our exes. Our eyes met again at a Coldstone creamery he used to work at where he gave me a free banana split my senior year in high school. After months went on, we both graduated and we found each other again at our freshman orientation at ECU.

When did you know he/she was the one? Was there something he/she did?, etc.

I knew Alvin was the one when I saw him at freshman orientation. We started dating shortly after for about two years then were off again until he started medical school.

Tell us about the proposal!

Alvin and I were planning on just going to dinner with another couple for Valentine’s day in 2017. I was working the night before Valentine’s day and as I was wrapping up my shift on Valentine’s day morning I received a text for a plane ticket to Chicago that morning at 10 am. Alvin had dropped me off at work the night before and picked me up the morning of Valentine’s day. We were in the car on our ride home and I told him that the craziest thing happened when I received a plane ticket to Chicago via text. Alvin told me that it was real and that I had to pack when we got home so we can catch our flight on time at 10 am to Chicago. He told me that we were going to meet his good friend that lived there along with his girlfriend for Valentine’s day dinner. We are good friends with this couple so I was so excited to meet them for dinner in Chicago. Alvin told me it was going to be surprise dinner for his good friend’s girlfriend too, so he told me not to mention it to her.

When we got to our hotel, Alvin had set up a mani/pedi appointment before dinner. I was not thinking anything of it, I thought it was just a part of my Valentine’s gift. As we were on our way to dinner, Alvin had told the Uber driver that we were going to meet up with our friends at the planetarium first before dinner. When we got there, it was already dark out. The Chicago skyline was lit and the stars were illuminating in the night sky. It was such a beautiful view.

As we looked at the skyline view, I asked Alvin where our friends were and he said that I shouldn’t worry and that he needed to show me something. He pulled out a virtual reality headset to show me a video he created. I watched the video, which included pictures and videos since we first started dating. The background music to the video was “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” by Israel Ka’ano’i Kamakawiwo’Olewhich which was from my favorite movie 50 First Dates. The last picture in the video was our german shepherd holding a ring box with a text saying, “now please take off the headset.” I took off the headset and Alvin was kneeling on one knee holding the ring box and asked, “will you marry me?” I was so overwhelmed with emotions, I was tearful, excited, nervous.

The whole proposal was captured by another one of Alvin’s friends. After the proposal we went to dinner to celebrate, but we did not go to dinner with the other couple. It turns out that the it was all set up and the other couple and his friend helped Alvin plan the proposal.

Alvin started planning this proposal since we went to look at engagement rings around the Spring of 2016. Alvin wanted the location to be right, he knew I loved Chicago and fell in love with it on one of our trips visiting his friends, so he decided to propose to me in front of the planetarium with the beautiful view night sky view of stars and the Chicago skyline.

Besides getting married – whats the one thing you are looking forward to on your wedding day?

We are looking forward to starting a new chapter in our lives in a new state, new city, new memories, and new friends. Alvin and I plan to move right after the wedding to Rochester, MN for him to start his residency.
